How many times have you been told that horseback riding isn’t a sport? That riders just sit there, and that the horse does all the work? If you’ve spent any amount of time in the saddle, then you know that’s not true.
The truth is, riders do an incredible amount of physical work. We have to keep ourselves upright and secure in the saddle, while often supporting the horse and helping him to balance. And then there’s the effect that efforts like jumping, coming to a sliding stop, or holding back a galloping horse have on us. It’s not easy, and this video highlights just how physically challenging riding is.
So, the next time someone tells you that riding isn’t a sport, and that riders aren’t athletes? Show them this video. Or offer to let them ride your horse for an hour. Chances are they’ll think otherwise pretty quickly.
