Recent Studies Show That The Majestic Clydesdale Could Become An Endangered Breed

Clydesdales are a well known breed, in part because they’re the famous horses used in Budweiser commercials. But just because most people have heard of these gentle giants, doesn’t mean that they are plentiful. In fact, according to the Rare Breeds Survival Trust Watchlist,  Clydesdales are a “vulnerable” breed, meaning that there are only about 500 to 900 adult breeding females registered in the UK.

Luckily, the USA Clydesdale Preservation Foundation (USACPF) in Gilbert, Arizona is working on rebuilding the breed’s population, and “hopes to reintroduce the breed as one good for riding, not just hitching and pulling plows or wagons,” according to WFMY News 2. The article also states that there’s only an estimated 5,000 Clydesdales left in existence.

By spreading awareness, we hope that these beautiful, majestic horses can repopulate. And with help from caring horse lovers, the USACPF, and the folks the Warm Springs Ranch (where the Budweiser horses reside), Clydesdales can plentiful once more. (Speaking of birthing new foals, have you met Pete, the first foal of the season born to the Budweiser Clydesdale family?)

Find out how you can help rebuild the population of this beautiful breed by visiting the USACPF website.
