6 Reasons Why Trail Riding Is Awesome

Modified: Nov 19, 2016 by ihearthorses · This post may contain affiliate links · Leave a Comment

Do you love trail riding? Trail riding is an awesome activity to take part in with your horse. Here’s why.

    1. Trail Riding Is Freeing

Trail riding gives you a chance to explore the world beyond your arena. It’s the perfect way to escape the confines of the arena and ride out where there are no fences keeping you in. When you trail ride, it feels like you could keep going for days.

    2. Trail Riding Puts Your Training to the Test

When you have your horse out on a trail, you’ll encounter different situations with every ride. Your horse will need to listen to you as you ask him to navigate obstacles like fallen trees or running water. Trail riding is a great way to put your horse’s training to the test.

    3. Trail Riding Lets You Enjoy Nature

Trail riding can be a great chance for you and your horse to enjoy nature. Trailer out to different locations to get beautiful views of the world, and keep an eye out for the wildlife that you may meet along your way.

    4. Trail Riding Gives You and Your Horse a Mental Break

If you have been intensely training your horse for an upcoming event, then perhaps it’s time for a trail ride. Training takes a mental toll on both you and your horse, and intense athletic activity can also be mentally draining. Trail riding gives you and your horse a chance to recover from the mental stress that you’ve been under in your training program. It’s a great break and change of pace that will leave you both renewed and refreshed, ready to pick up your training once again.

    5. Trail Riding Develops Your Horse’s Agility

When we ride in a groomed arena, our horses work over flat, smooth surfaces designed to be easy to travel over. However, trail riding presents your horse with uneven ground and obstacles that he must navigate. Riding your horse out on the trail can help to increase his agility and awareness of the footing beneath and in front of him. This leads to a more agile, balanced horse.

    6. Trail Riding Is Fun

There’s no way around it – trail riding is a blast. Whether you head out with friends or ride out alone for some peace and quiet, trail riding gives you and your horse some time away from the rest of the world. It’s a great way to unwind, and you never know what kind of wildlife you’ll discover.
