The Duchess Sanctuary is a 1,120 acre facility located outdoors on the beautiful grassy fields in Oakland, Oregon. It was established in the year 2008 by some truly compassionate horse lovers to provide a permanent safe haven for over one hundred innocent horses that were sadly abandoned, abused, neglected or homeless. Thankfully, these people have rescued and continue to rescue horses in need and bring them to the natural and gorgeous facility where they can begin to live the new life they deserve. Happy, well fed and safe.
It overwhelms many hearts to see these beautiful equines running healthy and free. Who wouldn't be happy for these sweet horses? Unfortunately sometimes people buy pets they really can't take care of in the long run, and it is a sad thing to see animals suffer terribly from someone's stupidity and negligence. Fortunately for these hundred plus horses, they got a second chance at living life.
Horses are meant to roam free like this, it is so heartwarming to see them this happy after thinking they were forgotten about. A ton of thanks to all the kind hearts who volunteer to make this happen, you are saving lives and making this world a better more humane place.
