Trail courses are difficult. They challenge a horse and rider's communication, and highlight any gaping holes in the horse's training. Horses need to be agile, versatile, and calm to negotiate the obstacles in a trail course, and many horses and riders train for years before they're successful in trail competitions.
And that's what makes this particular horse and rider so impressive. The rider, Lindsey Partridge, is riding Trivia Time, a Thoroughbred who is newly off the track. Partridge trained Trivia Time for the 2016 Thoroughbred Makeover competition, sponsored by the Retired Racehorse Project. Trainers have just a few short months to work with a horse newly off the track, teaching them the skills needed to be successful in competition.
This is Partridge and Trivia Time's winning round. Watch as they negotiate a challenging trail course. They do it so well that you would never guess Trivia Time was racing less than a year ago.
