Vet Will Live In A Stall To Raise Money For Neglected Former Race Horses

Dr. Bryan Langlois is no stranger to performing silly stunts on behalf of animals in need. In the past, he has locked himself in a dog crate and eaten dog food on command to raise money for homeless and injured pets.

His latest crusade will have the veterinarian living inside a horse stall for up to 50 hours in an effort to raise $10,000 for three former racehorses showing “serious signs of neglect, one of whom had life threatening injuries.”

Langlois is the medical director of the Pet Pantry of Lancaster County and also volunteers with Pennsylvania Racehorse Re-homing, Rehabilitation & Rescue, a nonprofit organization located near Harrisburg where the three horses are currently being cared for.

The most critically injured horse is a thoroughbred named Silent Ruler, who suffered a catastrophic leg injury during his last race in August 2017. According to PARR, he was then left without care for several weeks and required a special joint fusion surgery after his rescue.

“He suffered a few minor complications after his surgery but now is on the road to full recovery, with a new adoptive home and wonderful pasture just waiting for him once he is discharged from the hospital,” the organization said in a press release.

All told, Silent Ruler's care is estimated to cost $20,000. The other two horses Dr. Langlois will be fundraising for - Awesome Wink and You R Wunderful - required $1,000 to $3,000 of care each.

The generous vet will enter the stall at 5 PM Friday evening and post live updates on PARR's Facebook page. Donations towards the horses' care can be made via Facebook or on the PARR website.

The sooner the goal is reached, the sooner Dr. Langlois gets out of the stall!
