In NYC, Carriage Horse's Death Sparks Outrage From Animal Lovers

People can believe what they want. This is a free country and that is our right as citizens of the United States of America. But when it comes to animals, they do not have a say and the government and the people are the ones to decide how they are treated. We know that horses are strong animals and many are bred with jobs to do. Pulling carriages is most certainly one of those jobs. But when it comes to the modern day and age, some horses are forced to do these jobs and put in direct danger and not treated fairly.

For horse drawn carriages in major cities, this is something that breaks many people's hearts. Cars go whizzing by these terrified horses used to make a quick buck for nothing more than entertainment. These horses are not serving a purpose that's doing any good, and their lives are put in danger because strangely there's still a demand for inner city carriage rides.

New York City's prized landmark, Central Park, has been famous for decades for these carriage horse rides around the park. I've seen them myself several times and it always breaks my heart. If you've seen what people in NYC drive like, then you know exactly what I mean. These horses often appear equally frightened and exhausted. The city streets are no place for a horse to pull a carriage in 2020.

New Yorkers for Clean, Livable and Safe Streets recently shared a video of a mare collapsing this past weekend. The group campaigns for the better treatment of these equines and hopes to put a ban on carriage horses in the city for good.

⚠️Warning, this video is difficult to watch⚠️:

Here is an update from the publisher of the video:

    ‼️
TRAGIC UPDATE: Carriage horse who collapsed today in this video is DEAD! Join our PROTEST Sunday at 1pm at 618 West 52 St stable. Wear all black. This is a funeral protest. Carriage drivers have blood on their hands!
EMERGENCY PROTEST SUNDAY (MARCH 1) at 1pm in front of 618 West 52 St, the horse stable this traumatized, injured horse was hauled back to. This disturbing footage from today captures a seriously traumatized, injured carriage horse violently collapsing over and over, unable to stand up. Further footage shows that instead of calling for a veterinarian to treat this terrified horse, carriage drivers roughly tied him up with ropes and recklessly shoved and dragged him into a trailer while he was down, possibly causing more damage.
    💔
This latest tragic incident shows the desperate need for carriage dash cams and for new New York City Council laws for far better standards of care! Our elected officials must END THIS ABUSE!
Please contact your council member and ask them to HELP these suffering horses. We are gathering more information on the horse. Stay tuned.

This is not the first time that the Big Apple has come under fire for carriage horses. For years now, there have been many animal welfare organizations and activists working diligently in hopes to put a ban on this unethical treatment of horses.

“This video is just the latest disturbing piece of evidence we’ve seen showing how poorly these horses are treated and what they go through," NYCLASS executive director Edita Birnkrant told NY Daily News. “How can this be legal in New York City, supposed to be a leader of the world?

What do you think should be done in light of the current events? Do you think that carriage horses rides should be banned in all major cities? Share with us in the comments section.
