Happy Monday! These are orphan nurse mare foals currently waiting to be adopted at the Last Chance Corral in Athens...

Where did all these foals come from? Many of them are part of the groups Nurse Mare Foal Rescue Project. Nurse Mare Foals are “by-products” of the thoroughbred racing industry. Some barns will separate the Thoroughbred mare and foal, so that the mare can be shipped back to the stud farm to be rebred for next year. Her newborn foal needs to nurse, of course, so another mare with milk is brought in. The reason that mare has milk? She was bred and had a foal as well. That foal is usually sold at auction (often to slaughter), destroyed on site. Last Chance Corral saves about 150-200 of these foals a year.

Right now, they are at capacity and need you to adopt a nurse mare foal to make room for more! Often, these are stunning babies, such as this beautiful, two week old buckskin gaited filly named Disco.
They have many foals to choose from: Warmbloods, Paints, Walkers, Quarter Horses, Draft crosses and more. Adoption fees are very reasonable, in most cases just a couple hundred. Just check out the video below:
Please share! WE ARE AT CAPACITY! For those of you qualified to adopt, now is the time! We have Warmbloods, Paints, Walkers, Quarter Horses, Draft X, etc! Fillies, colts, and every color of the rainbow! Please share... Adopting these babies out means that we can take more in. www.lastchancecorral.org has our adoption policies and FAQs, please read before calling. Located in Athens OH. 740-594-4336.

They are very young foals – most less than a month old – with very strict adoption policies including having prior horse experience, appropriate facilities and a buddy horse. If you are interested in saving one of these cuties, visit the Last Chance Corral’s adoption FAQs on their site and follow their directions for adoption inquiries.

Interested in adopting a foal. Can you send pics of what you have available this year? I have a beautiful facility to keep it at and my grandson has a mini for it to buddy up to. I’m experienced in training horses for 30 years, worked with veterinarian, and owned a feed store. So it would have a great home.
