Carl Sims has known where his true passions lie since he was just a boy. He developed a love for horses at a very young age. After scraping up $300 as a sixth grader, Sims bought a rescue horse named King and never looked back. Today this remarkable young man has his own professional photography business specializing in equines, and is putting himself though college with the money he earns.
King was malnourished, fearful and had clearly been abused before his rescue. Unable to afford the fees to board the animal, Sims moved in with his beloved grandmother who suffers from Alzheimer's. She gave him permission to make a home for King using a shed and an acre of land on her property.
“Since my childhood, she’s seen that my love for horses is strong, and she loves it. She is a country girl born and raised. She would follow me outside and watch me for hours and tell me how good I am to the horses and how I will go places with them,” Sims told The Horseaholic.
Caring for King strengthened Sims' passion and assured him that he had chosen the right path for his life. When he obtained a paint horse named Skipper, he discovered a love for showing halter. Together, Carl and Skipper received Top 5 Honors at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo with no formal training!
“One of the reasons I am so driven is I set goals for myself that I want to achieve. If you do not believe in yourself, who will? My main goal in the future is to be very successful in the equine industry and to be a very successful entrepreneur.”
And Sims is well on his way to achieving those goals! The inspirational young man is the owner and photographer at C. Sims Photography in Dickinson, Texas. He shoots weddings, family photos, special events, and, of course, equine sessions.
Sims hopes to continue expanding his photography business after college. He is already living his dream of combining his two greatest passions - working with horses and capturing the special moments in peoples' lives!
