4. Be Honest
When you talk with the trainer, be honest about your goals. Do you want to show, do you want to show at the elite levels, or do you want to focus on bettering your riding? The trainer who can take you to elite shows is not always a great match if your focus is on improving your riding. If you’re not naturally competitive, or you don’t want to focus on horse shows, that’s fine, but you need to be honest about these goals from the start.
